Lesson 4: Cutting Onion Strips for Sautéing

Step 1

Follow Steps 1, 2, and 3 in Dicing an Onion. Slice off the top and bottom ends of the onion.

Step 2

Lay the two onion halves flat on the cutting board.

Step 3

Make parallel cuts across the onion, thinner for thin slices, fatter for thick slices.

Continue cutting all the way across the onion, gripping onion firmly while keeping your fingertips curved away from the knife.

Separate the onion layers into individual strips. The onion strips are now ready to be sauteed.
